From the Rankers Ipad App – The Camper Van that flies! |
Our local supermarket this morning has been bombarded with the cast of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’. There were three coach loads of stooped and grey tourists wearing tweed trousers and Goya Gardenia perfume! Some wore trainers with long coats and track suit bottoms, others forgot that there were people looking at them and were decked in Jesus sandals and socks! Out they came with their blanched expressions, hand luggage (that’s the small suitcase with wheels variety) and disgusted expressions. Who knows where they were going but they seemed to generally be heading for the beach? As usual, the locals take it all in their stride, like the foreigners are just apparitions they will never be rid of. You can spot a tourist by a mile, and I include the Brits that live here. As much as we try to blend in we would always be identified in a line up.
It is now only 2 weeks until we embark on our 8 week whirlwind trip across the equator. We have received a couple of great emails from Laura and Richard who emigrated to NZ in 2011 and I think this part of the trip will be our most audacious!
We have hired a Jucy Camper Van for the 21 days we are there which of course means campsites and sleeping rough! Throughout our stay we are going to be treated to some of the most amazing scenery nature has given us but putting together an itinerary that ensures we don’t miss a thing has been very difficult. At the moment, a visit to the volcano that was used as Mt Doom in the Lord Of the Rings films has been dropped! I hope we don’t regret that!

Being the super cheap skates that we are now, we’ve stopped shopping at Harrods and are wading through the bargain buckets at Lidl. It’s amazing what no income will do to you. When looking at the bottom of the range we are asking if they have anything cheaper! Even shopping in the supermarkets we were always price conscious, but frivolous spending has gone, except Bourbon biscuits – those are a must.
Today sees us pick up Chuggaboom 3, as my mother in law is flying in tomorrow; and I’m off to see Paralimni Football club with my father in law so I will report on the songs, the fights with the opposition, the dog burger, oh and the match in my next blog. Apparently, it’s going to be like Chelsea v Millwall (so all the Millwall fans running a mile and 10-0 to Chelsea then).
Have it!
